I had a great time racing St Neots Standard triathlon put on by Active Training World. The river swim was good fun and I managed to sit on the feet of some sprint distance competitors for the first lap before having to go solo on the second lap as they got out. My transition wasn’t too bad so I was straight out onto the bike course.

The course was flat and open which left no shelter from the howling cross wind so I spent most of the bike leg focusing on staying upright. I am going back to do the second race of the series in a couple of weeks so hopefully it’ll be less windy and I’ll be able to improve my bike time. Thankfully I made it to the end of the bike in one piece and my attention turned to the run.

Having got a few standard distance races under my belt this year I am feeling better on the run now than at the start of the season. I had a couple of people around me which definitely made my first 5km fast, but they managed to get a gap on me so I was left to push on alone for the last 5km.

I was happy to finish 2nd female overall given my poor bike split. I can’t wait for the next one!
