South West Road Runners First Chance 10K, 2 Apr 2022

I made a last minute decision to race at the weekend in the South West Road Runners First Chance 10K. I had never raced a 10K before, and thought it'd be fun to give it a go and test the race nerves. With it being a last minute race entry, I of course hadn't tapered and to be honest my legs were not feeling fresh at all!

I set off at what felt like a comfortable pace, and after 1K I realised that was my 5K PB pace, so slowed it down a bit. It was a mostly flat course with a couple of sharp turns and trail(ish) bits. The first 5k felt like it went on forever, but the second 5k went in a flash. I found someone to stick with and we pushed each other to the finish line. The official time was 41:21 which is exactly a 1 minute PB for me! Not too shabby for unfresh legs.
