BUCS Duathlon, 17 Nov 2024
Leading up to BUCS Duathlon I was very nervous but also excited as this was my first ever duathlon. This was daunting to me as the swim is my strongest discipline, so competing in a race without a swim was something I would never have thought I would do! But I found myself at the start line full of excitement.
The first 5km run felt smooth, I wanted to try my best at keeping that pace without over-tiring myself as I still had a majority of the race to go. I entered the transition area after 4 laps of the run loop ready to get on the bike, which was really fun. I loved racing on a racetrack as the road surface was so smooth and there was only one small incline which meant I could pick up some good speed.
Coming into transition and onto the last 2.5km run my legs felt like jelly and my pace massively slowed but I kept pushing through the pain and soon enough my legs started picking up again and so did my pace, even allowing me to sprint into the finish.
It was an amazing day out with a great atmosphere. I enjoyed racing a lot, so much so that I’ve entered into another duathlon on the 30th of November!
